Street Trading Pitches and Promotional Sites in Stevenage Town Centre

Stevenage Borough Council owns the land between the shop fronts in Stevenage Town Centre and, using landlord's powers of self-help, can control the activities that take place on their land.  Busking is not permitted and Peddler's Licenses are not valid.

The town centre is a designated consent street under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.  There are 15 designated pitches in the town centre available for hire to commercial businesses and the management and administration of these pitches is the responsibility of the Stevenage Town Centre Management Company. All individuals or businesses wishing to trade or promote in Stevenage Town Centre must obtain the permission of the Town Centre Manager.

Applications for a permanent trading pitch must be made in writing to the Stevenage Town Centre Management Company Ltd, C/o Daneshill House, Danestrete, Stevenage, Herts SG1 1HN for consideration by the Board. Applications should include full details of the proposed trading offer, unit dimensions, power requirements and a photograph or artist impression of the unit.  Approval is subject to health, safety and food hygiene checks by Stevenage Borough Council's Environmental Health department.  Click here to download an Application Form for a Street Trading Pitch in Stevenage town centre.

Successful applications will be issued with an Agreement for Hire and must provide copy of Public Liability Insurance up to £10m. A deposit of 50% of the agreed quarterly pitch fee is required prior to commencement of trading and is refundable on termination of the Contract.  Fees (to be agreed by the Stevenage Town Centre Manager) are payable quarterly in advance to the Stevenage Town Centre Management Company, preferably by BACS or Direct Debit. Additionally, permanent street traders must purchase an Annual Street Trading Consent from Stevenage Borough Council. The current cost is £360 per year and is subject to inflationary increase on 1 April of each year.

We are currently offering a "3 for 2" deal on promotional site bookings until the end of September 2009.  The dates booked do not have to run in succession and the lowest priced day will be free of charge.  In addition, we are offering a further discount on weekly bookings, reducing the cost to £900 per Mon-Sat and £920 per Mon-Sun booking.   All prices are subject to VAT at 15%

Charitable and non-profit making organisations may book one of 3 Publicity Sites in the town centre through Stevenage Borough Council by contacting Mary Cherry or Heather Tempany on 01438 242992. There is no charge for these sites.
